The Kingdom of Spain occupies 80% of the Iberian Peninsula, the remaining 20% in Portugal since it is located immediately west of Spain. The Spanish mainland is about 40 million people and covers over 500,000 square kilometers of land, half of which consists of high plateau known as Plateaux, and five major mountain ranges are scattered throughout the country, so it is the highest in Eastern Europe after Switzerland.
